Well, we're starting to push it now but Nosedive was still essentially top
to bottom thanks to a ribbon on the skiers right side. Skins go on just
above Crossover and come off at the Toll Road. The only discontinuous spot
on Tuesday was where melt-water from National ate the snowpack from side to
side. Hayride looked like it was covered from side to side on the upper and
middle parts, but large bare spots on the flats made it look like walking
between the skiing. Lord and...

After skiing a Bolton run on Tuesday and finding a skiff of snow up top, I knew I had to head to the big mountain on Wednesday for possibly the last foray into a wintertime environment this season. On the drive over, it started snowing in Williston on 89 and continued for the remainder of the drive to Stowe. In Moscow, we hit a squall of heavy snow which felt odd with all the green around.

Just another crappy day in the mountains.

http://www.hikethewhites.com/gulfofslides3/gos27a.jpg

Alas, we missed the skiing all the way to Pinkham by one week, most of GOS trail was mud and flowing water. We actually bare booted all the way to the base of Gully #1, no need for skins, snowshoes, or traction of any type. We met Winston (friend of Goliath and Brutus) along the way, what a big ol' love sponge. There's a big new slide at the entrance to GOS from the bottom of Gully...

We got there around 9 and after screwing around with our gear for a good long time got on the trail. This was first for all of us. I have hiked to the bowl without skis years ago but this was the real deal.

We opted for Hillman's Highway. We got soaked in the rain coming up and it was fairly warm too so sweat was a factor. The hike brought us to some of the nicest corn bumps you'll find. Basically we did...

gone skiing twice. Alex Friend and I met in the Midway lot at 930am, hoping
to get up and back before the rain moved in. It was Alex's birthday today
and decided the office could wait. I like that mentality.

Trip Report:

Very nice and late end to the 2007-2008 season today. Temps were in the 50s most of the day before climbing into the 60s when the sun came out. Very little snow left anywhere... the 80 degree week really did them in.
