Haunted Hiking

Hi everyone, it's been a while since I last posted, but here goes. Since '05 I've been doing a "hiking column" for The Hippo a free news rag in Southern NH. Now I'm embarking on a bigger journey and have a new book coming out in June called Haunted Hikes of New Hampshire. Yup- you heard that right. Ghosts, spirits, weird happenings and mysterious histories tied in with great hikes in the Whites and elsewhere in New Hampshire. Mount Washington Conditions??

Hey folks, I know there have been people going up to Tuck's as of late and I'm curious as to where the best cover is on the east side of the mountain right now. I've read the daily reports about fissures and avy danger, but they don't exactly tell you what routes have the best cover. That being said, has anyone skied Gulf of Slides or Hillman's Hwy this past weekend. I'd like to know if either or both have better snow than the bowl. Thanks a bunch! Jerry

2009 Season Goals

Is it too early to start a "2009 Season Goals" thread? For me: 25 or more days skiing. Ski Colorado Attempt at least one of the Ski Sundown Mogul Comps Ski at least 2 new mountains in NE (don' t know which yet) Get son to ski better Get daughter to be able to ski NE black diamond Finally land a helicopter <360 for you younger folks>

Intrawest owner hurting

I realize that there are only a few people in here who have any interest in the stock/financial markets. I'm very interested in stocks/companies that have some sort of connection with the ski resort business. AIG continues to make news with their problems. As people have mentioned, sure, the business of Stowe is but a drop in the bucket for a business as huge as AIG but I do believe there is some connection not seen by guests. Balance Boards

I've been going through some of the old posts concerning off season workouts(as you might have guessed I'm really bored) and I noticed a few references to Balance Boards. I have never used one myself and was wondering if anyone had any experience with them and are they a useful addition to a workout?

Adirondacks special on PBS

PBS had an awesome special on last nite from 9-11PM about the Adirondacks. It covered it's early history and went right up to contemporay issues like the Big Tupper Ski resort debate, but had tons of insight about the area that I wasn't aware of. Well worth watching if they rerun it.

How do you improve your mood when you're in a funk (aside from skiing)? Just curious...

Need some advice

Were getting married this summer; were planning to go to South America for our honeymoon, end of August. Since it is our honeymoon, were looking for more than skiing. A bit of luxury, a bit of sight seeing, etc. I am thinking Argentina, with a few days in Buenos Aires and then skiing in Andes. Questions: 1. Would you do it? Is it a good idea (were both avid skiers)? 2. Argentina or Chile? 3. If yes, and advice? Where to ski, what to do, etc? 4. Any recommended travel agency? 5. Etc�

Ticks

Hey All, I just took my dog for a walk under the power lines the other day and we both came back covered with ticks. I am not a pansy it was just a huge pain getting them all off of myself and the pooch. Any idea when they slow down enough to get into the brush. I don't mind a few of them but this was just crazy.
