This probably doesn't apply to the very fit people on this forum, but they did a study in the Alps and found that 40% of the winter sports fatalities there were due to heart attacks.

The risk factors appear to be the sudden exertion of skiing at high altitude and cold temperatures, and (no surprise) smoking and lack of training preparation before the trip.

Apparently the first couple days of the trip are the highest risk, so probably it's a good idea to take it easy when you first arrive...

I have been a renter my whole life and am looking to buy a decent pair of skis & boots. I'd say I am somewhere around a 6-7. Fine on all blues. OK on most blacks, although more cautious. I don't rip off-piste (but I wouldn't rule it out in the future). I am 6 feet, 185 pounds and just looking for a good all mountain ski, but I don't want to spend a ton of money. I ski pretty much New England exclusively.

I've got a sporadic love affair with the game. I played for a bit when real young, 10 - 12 years old, then again 1 year on my high school JV team.

Recently picked the game back up again last year a bit, this year more and I find myself getting addicted to it.

The drawback to the sport is you need a partner to participate, which can be tough in adult life. The sport itself though is fantastic. I find myself wondering why it's as unpopular as it is....

The terrain expansion to Burnt Mountain was the centerpiece of today's announcement, and will create up to 270 acres of new terrain for the upcoming season, and 655 new acres when the entire project is complete. This will double Sugarloaf's current skiable acreage and make it the largest ski area east of the Rocky Mountains.
